Thrilled is the best way to describe the feeling that is circulating among members of the 20th anniversary planning committee, as Sistagraphy prepares to celebrate 20 years of photography in Atlanta!

The cornerstone of this milestone celebration is a photography exhibit entitled, “A Different Eye: Sistagraphy Celebrates 20 Years of Photograhy” A Different Eye begins with an opening reception on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Hammonds House Museum from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. While the photographs are on exhibit, Sistagraphy will host an Artist Talk on Sunday, September 29th and a Panel Discussion on Sunday, October 27th.  All events will be held at the Hammonds House Museum at 503 Peeples Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA, 30310, in the historic West End.

The celebration continues in January with an exhibit in the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Atrium from January 17, 2014 – March 19, 2014 and a 2014 release of the 20th Anniversary Publication of photographs by members of this fine collective!

Throughout the last 20 years, Sistagraphy demonstrates that change can happen in the twinkling of an eye. With a click of the shutter, a moment is forever captured. Through the lenses of their cameras, Sistagraphy seeks to reveal the simple and multi-faceted layers of the human spirit.

Sistagraphy explores and embraces theme-based imagery. Their visual documentaries have told – and continue to tell – stories of life’s journeys, the capture of nature, space, ordinary people in extraordinary places, while creating art for the community and, yes, even for the world to see!

Sistagraphy is an Atlanta-based collective of African-American women photographers from various backgrounds and experiences. This collective, since 1993, has been devoted to the diverse field of photography where moments are captured and events documented.  Through exhibits, members of Sistagraphy collectively seek to awaken the sleeping conscience! This diverse group weaves together a strong social fiber, using the camera as their tool of choice.
